Abstrakt

Stwardnienie rozsiane (SM, sclerosis multiplex) jest uważane za najczęstszą nabytą chorobę demielinizacyjną ośrodkowego układu nerwowego. SM jest chorobą, na którą zapadają ludzie młodzi, najczęściej między 20. r.ż. a 40. r.ż. Diagnostyka SM jest złożona, należy w niej uwzględnić przeszłość chorobową, wywiad rodzinny, obraz kliniczny, obraz radiologiczny oraz wyniki badań laboratoryjnych krwi i płynu mózgowo-rdzeniowego. Obecnie w diagnostyce są stosowane kryteria diagnostyczne McDonalda z 2017 r., które pozwalają wcześnie postawić diagnozę. Wprowadzenie leczenia modyfikującego przebieg SM jak najwcześniej chroni chorych przed kolejnymi rzutami, zmianami radiologicznymi w mózgu i rdzeniu kręgowym, ale również przed zanikami mózgu i niepełnosprawnością.
