Abstract

During the hospitalization, patient is exposed to the various of stressors like sleep deficiency, low physical activity, inadequate nutrition, mental and physical stress, which disturb homeostasis and cause allostatic load. As a result, the patient weakens and adverse health events may occur, thus exposing him to the risk of post-hospital syndrome and re-hospitalization. Lifestyle factors are the key in preventing re-hospitalization – nutrition with adequate protein supply and physical activity, which will allow to rebuild muscle mass and restore disturbed homeostasis after a stay in the hospital. During recovery, it may also be necessary to use oral nutritional supplements.
