Financial profitability analysis of using reimbursed drugs under the drug program B.46 Original article

Abstract

The study compared the costs incurred by healthcare providers for treating patients under the B.46 drug program Treatment of multiple sclerosis after failure of first-line drug therapy or the rapidly developing severe form of multiple sclerosis or primary progressive multiple sclerosis with financial outlays that the public payer allocates to this program. Four active substances are currently available under the program: fingolimod, natalizumab, ocrelizumab and cladribine. A cost analysis showed that treating patients under program B.46 is profitable for healthcare providers for all medicines, and the amount of NFZ funding is higher than the cost of providing the benefit per patient in the range from PLN 1,611 to PLN 2,178 for a “standard” patient. In the case of a patient with comorbidities, this profit is lower.
