Abstrakt
Esmolol zaliczany jest do II generacji leków β-adrenolitycznych. Profil farmakokinetyczny i farmakodynamiczny różni go jednak od innych leków kardioselektywnych. Esmolol jest β1-adrenolitykiem o szybkim początku i krótkim czasie działania, podawanym dożylnie. Wskazania do jego stosowania obejmują przede wszystkim: leczenie częstoskurczów nadkomorowych, kontrolę rytmu komór w migotaniu i trzepotaniu przedsionków oraz interwencyjne obniżenia ciśnienia w nadciśnieniu tętniczym. Lek jest szczególnie użyteczny w okresie okołooperacyjnym.
