Abstract

In previous observational studies was affirmed that antiplatelet action of clopidogrel is reduced in patients receiving proton pump inhibitor treatment. The postulated mechanism is that omeprazole (and some others medicines from this group) inhibits the isoenzyme 2C19 of cytochrome P450 (CYP2C19), which participates in transformation of clopidogrel to its active metabolite. The aim of the OCLA study (Omeprazole CLopidogrel Aspirin Study) was the assessment of influence of omeprazole on antiplatelet action of clopidogrel in patients undergoing elective coronary stent implantation.
