Abstract

Respiratory tract diseases are the most common chronic diseases in both children and adults. This results in the need for effective drugs to control chronic diseases and to work quickly and well in acute conditions. Such drugs are glucocorticosteroids administered by inhalation. All recommendations place inhaled glucocorticosteroids as one of the basic drugs in the treatment of respiratory diseases in children and adults. One of the best-known and studied GCs is budesonide. Budesonide is a synthetic, non-halogenated glucocorticosteroid with a very strong antiallergic and anti-inflammatory effect. It is effective both in chronic diseases (e.g., asthma and COPD) and in emergencies (e.g., exacerbation of chronic diseases, acute laryngitis). This article presents typical examples of clinical use of inhaled budesonide in acute subglottic laryngitis (croup), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchial asthma. In all of these cases, budesonide has proven to be an effective and safe drug.
