Abstract
In the clinical picture of multiple sclerosis speech disorders play a significant role. It is estimated that between 25% and even 44% of patients experience the difficulty with speech. The article presents the issues associated with dysarthria among MS patients. In multiple sclerosis, the most frequently occurring types of dysarthria are: spastic, ataxic and mixed dysarthria. However, the knowledge of all types of dysarthria and the ability to distinguish it from other speech disorders (neurogenic origin) is an extremely important part of MS patients’ care. Each of the three above-mentioned types of dysarthria manifests itself in different ways and differently affects everyday communication of people with multiple sclerosis. The article discusses and describes all types of dysarthria.
