Abstract

Diet is an important element of treatment supporting the wound healing process, but malnutrition can have a significant impact for the regeneration process. Foods rich in nutrients (especially protein and unsaturated fatty acids) and additionally containing numerous microelements, they ensure an adequate level of nutrition and, as a result, support the process wound healing. It is particularly important to ensure an adequate supply of vitamins and minerals (such as vitamins A, C, E and zinc and selenium), because it determines the optimal course of the tissue regeneration process due to the participation of these nutrients in collagen synthesis and subsequent cross-linking, as well as the formation of new blood vessels.
