Abstract
Topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain (acute and chronic) have been used for many years and their role is emphasized in many guidelines. As it was showed in many of published studies, NSAIDs are important in the treatment of acute and chronic pain (including osteoarthritis). The effectiveness and safety of topical NSAIDs are emphasized in many papers. NSAIDs are available in many forms: as sprays, gels, ointments, patches or others forms that can be offered for the patients with musculoskeletal pain. The choice should be choose individually for the patient, and the pharmacological properties of the topical agent should be taking into account. The paper will present the properties of topical NSAIDs, taking into account the factors that may determine the choice of the right drug for a particular patient. The advantages of topical nimesulide will also be presented.
