Cardiovascular risk in gestational diabetes Review article
Main Article Content
Abstract
Gestational diabetes mellitus is not only risk factor of type 2 diabetes, but also background to later development of cardiovascular complications. Cardiovascular complications after gestational diabetes develops independently of later type 2 diabetes. Cardiovascular complications can develop even early after delivery and are more and more expressed later during the life. In late pregnancy develops metabolic abnormalities of the myocardial function and also left ventricle structure changes as well. Prevention of cardiovascular complications should be undertaken just after delivery in cases of gestational diabetes, because it exists as additional risk factor of cardiovascular diseases.
