Abstract

The article describes the results of the glycemic arm of ADVANCE. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of tight glicemic control (HbA1c ≤6,5%) involving gliclazide (modified release) and other drugs as required in type 2 diabetic patients on micro- and macrovascular events. Patients in the intensive-glucose control group had lower the glycated hemoglobin value (6,5%), a 10% relative reduction in the combined outcome of macro- and microvascular events, including 21% reduction in the incidence of nephropathy.
