Abstract
The major findings of the Losartan Intervention for Endpoint Study were summarized. In this randomized trial performed in subjects with arterial hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy losartan was shown to be superior over atenolol in preventing strokes, new cases of diabetes and atrial fibrillation and regression of LVH. The results of LIFE Study were the cornerstone to introduce sartans as first-line therapy of hypertension.
