Abstract

An increase body temperature above 38°C should be treated as an undesirable condition and efforts should be made to lower it to a safe level. The most commonly used drugs for this purpose are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins mediating the development of inflammation. However, this group of drugs is not uniform in terms of antipyretic effect. One of the most commonly used substances from this group is naproxen, which is distinguished by favourable pharmacokinetics. It is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and has a peripheral half-life of 12–15 hours, which guarantees a stable antipyretic effect.
