Transcatheter Aortic –Valve Implantation For Aortic Stenosis In High Risk Patients – Results of PARTNER Study – Cohort A and B Review article
Main Article Content
Abstract
Severe symptomatic aortic valve stenosis is unequivocal indication for valve replacement. Pharmacotherapy does not improve prognosis. Approximately one third of elderly patients suffering from aortic stenosis is not operated on, due to high perioperative risk. For such patient transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) could be valuable therapeutic option. Results of PARTNER study – cohort B (published in 2010), show that TAVI procedures are better than standard therapy in people with severe aortic stenosis unable to undergo surgery. Just presented, at American College of Cardiology Scientific Session 2011, one-year results from PARTNER Cohort A, show that the new procedure is as good as surgery in high risk, but surgery eligible patients.
