Abstract

Statins is a group of drugs commonly used in a treatment of lipid disorders. There is strong and clear evidence for positive effect of statins on serum lipids concentrations and patients prognosis. Rosuvastatin is more potent then simvastatin or atorvastatin in reducing serum lipids. Clinical trials show that treatment with rosuvastatin can be beneficial among patients with diagnosed ischemic heart disease or its equivalent, and without cardiovascular disease but with risk factors. Moreover there is evidence for atherosclerosis reduction in carotid and coronary arteries with rosuvastatin. In the article the role of statins in prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and the data for rosuvastatin efficiency and safety is presented.
