Abstract

There are many clinical situations when antithrombotic therapy is essential. Atrial fibrillation is the most common indication for Vitamin K Antagonist therapy (in Poland – warfarin or acenokumarol). Even more patients are treated with single or dual antiplatelet therapy. In many situations physicians find it difficult to decide witch and how many antithrombotic drugs should the patient use. Authors of 9th edition of American College of Chest Physicians Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines specify those issues and give us much useful information especially as far as triple antithrombotic therapy and discontinuation of antithrombotic drugs prior to different surgical procedures are concern.
