Abstract
Levofloxacin is a bactericidal drug belonging to the fluoroquinolone group. It has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity, including Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria, selected anaerobes and atypical microorganisms. Levofloxacin can be administered intravenously and orally. Once-a-day dosing and the ability to be taken with or without food make for greater convenience. Levofloxacin achieves high concentration in urine and penetrates well into the prostate gland. It is used in the treatment of uncomplicated pyelonephritis in women, urinary tract infections in men, complicated urinary tract infections, acute and chronic prostatitis, epididymitis, and in the treatment of respiratory, skin and soft tissue infections.
