Abstract
Lamotrigine is an anticonvulsant medication to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder. The mechanism of its action is connected with blocking voltage-dependent sodium channels and the release of excitatory amino acids, mainly glutamate. Lamotrigine is most effective for preventing the recurrent depressive episodes of bipolar disorder and for the treatment of bipolar depression. It can be used in some difficult clinical situations, what is presented in this paper.
