Abstract

Lacosamide is a new generation anticonvulsant whose mechanism of action is thought to involve enhancement of slow inactivation of sodium channels. Lacosamid has a favourable pharmacokinetic profile including low protein binding, a long half-life and good bioavailability that is not affected by food intake. Additionally the lack of induction or inhibition of hepatic CYP family indicate a low potential for clinically significance drug-drug interactions. Weight neutrality and absent skin rashes are favourable features of the drug.
