Abstract
The lack of evident data which would confirm the benefits of a hypotensive therapy for patients over 80 called for a large clinical trial that could answer numerous questions connected with hypertension of the elderly. HYVET trial has proved that the therapy based on indapamide or the combination of indapamide and perindopril reduces all cause mortality, stroke mortality, risk of cardiovascular incidents, and developments of heart failure at hypertensive over 80. The therapeutic scheme used in the trial is beneficial especially to the patients characterised by the risk profile close to the one observed with the trial participants.
