The evaluation of the effectiveness of in vitro use of selected cerumenolytic agents

Abstract
The aim of the study was the evaluation of the effectiveness of ear wax dispersion by selected cerumenolytic agents. The use of following ceruminolytics was assessed: A-cerumen (Laboratories Gilbert, France), Audispray (Laboratoires Diepharmex, Switzerland), Cerumex (Axfarm, Poland), newmed ear spray (New Pharma, Switzerland), Olivax (Naveh-Pharma, Israel), Otomer (Instituto Ganassini, Italy), Otozil (Gamma s.c., Poland), Parafina ciekła (PPH HASCO-LEK, Poland), Remo-wax (Orion Corporation, Finland), Solwax active (Arkona Trade and Science, Poland), Vaxol (HL Healthcare Ltd, Great Britain). The study was design as in vitro study. Cerumen impaction was removed manually from external auditory canal of adults. Ear cerumen was placed in test tubes, to which a doses of 1 ml of selected cerumenolytics were added. In one- and five-minute intervals the assessment of ear wax softening, clarity of solution, dispersion and the size of the samples was carried out. The highest effectiveness in ear wax softening and dispersing was observed with the use of A-cerumen. Forty-minutes action of cerumenolytic agent A-cerumen led to ear wax dispersing into fine partcles.
