Abstract

The paper summarizes application of monoclonal antibodies in the treatment of allergic diseases. Till now a dozen of monoclonal antibodies have been tested or are being investigated in allergology: 1. neutralizing cytokines, including chemokines (antibodies anti-IL-4, anti- -IL-5, anti-IL-13, anti-TNF-α and against eotaxin 1 – anti-CCL11), 2. blocking receptors for cytokines (anti-IL-2R antibody), 3. targeting surface molecules characteristic for cells mediating hypersensitivity reactions (antibodies anti-CD4, anti-CD11a, anti-CD23) and 4. neutralizing IgE (anti- -IgE antibody). One of the mentioned above antibodies – omalizumab – have been approved in therapy of allergic disorders in the treatment of severe asthma.
