19-year delay of Huntington’s disease diagnosis. A case study Case report
Main Article Content
Abstract
Huntington’s disease (HD) is a genetically determined (autosomal, dominant) neurodegenerative disease. There is no specific treatment of HD. The article describes a case of 59-year-old woman hospitalized for the first time in a psychiatric department, after 19 years from the onset and 3 years after neurologists diagnosed HD. At the time of hospitalization, the patient was psychotic and completely reliant on social assistance. The patient was administered haloperidol to give relief of psychotic symptoms, reducing suicidal thoughts and chorea movements.
