Abstract
What value system should the psychiatrist be guided by? Is it enough only to apply to Hippocrates’ principles of medical ethics – aegroti salus suprema lex esto – to achieve professional success? What are the twists and turns of the profession having as different aspects of activity in a changing reality? The attempt to answer these questions is the goal of this article, conducting considerations based on examples of behavior of psychiatrists in various, sometimes extremely tragic situations. The communication between the psychiatrist and the patient leads to certain effects. They depend on the paradigms which both parties move within. The paradigm of kindness can generate events that may have unpredictable consequences on the life of psychiatrists and their patients.
