Abstract

Diet provide energy and nutrient and special substances which are necessary to keep homeostasis. Targeted nutritional activities can affect on physically but also psychic wellbeing. Unbalanced neurotransmition (f.e. acetylcholine, aminobutyric acid, serotonin or glutamic acid) become one of important hypotheses regarding etiological factors of mental disorders. Many neurotransmitters are simple food-derived organic molecules or products of their transformation. Conclusion of this statement is that abnormalities in the concentrations of certain substances in the diet have a specific effect on mental health. The case presents selected nutrients (amino acids, omega-3 fatty acids, choline, zinc, Rhodiola rosea and fructose) and their effects on the synthesis of neurotransmitters and mental state.
