Nickel allergy in children orthodontic treatment – still valid problem
Main Article Content
Abstract
Nickel in dentistry is widely used, among others in orthodontics. It is part of the fixed cameras (castles, rings, arcs). However, allergy to this metal in children orthodontic treatment is increasing. Nickel allergy is an acute or chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane or skin. In the mouth occurs erythema, dryness, cracking, burning red lips. Symptoms include extraoral angular cheilitis, urticaria and papular rash around the mouth. Decisive method for diagnose nickel allergy are patch tests. You should then remove the cameras, or replace nickel elements of braces on nickel-free.
