Abstract

The aim of the study was to compare the pollen season of birch in the cities of Bialystok, Bydgoszcz, Cracow, Lublin, Olsztyn, Opole, Piotrkow Trybunalski, Sosnowiec, Warsaw, Wroclaw and Zielona Gora in 2015. Measurements were performed by the volumetric method (Burkard and Lanzoni pollen sampler). Seasonal Pollen Index (SPI) was estimated as the annual sum of daily average pollen concentrations. The pollen season of birch started first in Krakow, Opole, Wroclaw and Zielona Gora on the 12th of April and in the other cities it started during the next 1–13 days. The differences of pollen seasons duration were considerables. The highest record airborne concentration, 950 pollen grains/m3, was noted in Wroclaw on the 15th of April. The maximum values of seasonal pollen count occurred between 15th and 29th of April in all cities.
