Allergy to insulin – a significant clinical problem?

Abstract

Insulin has an important role in the treatment of diabetic patients. The problem of allergy to insulin is not a phenomenon commonly observed. The introduction of new formulations of insulin analogue reduced the incidence of allergic reactions. However, the diagnosis of allergy to insulin in people with type 1 diabetes therapeutic is a real challenge. The paper presents the current state of knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of allergy to insulin, and presents practical algorithms and differential diagnosis in cases of suspected allergy to insulin.
