Abstract

Alternaria is one of the most frequent fungal aeroallergens, which occur both in outdoor and indoor environments. The aim of the study was to analyze the variation in Alternaria spore seasons in Poznań during 2008–2011. Daily average spores counts were collected by the volumetric spore trap – Lanzoni. The limits of the Alternaria spore seasons were defined using the 90% method. Following characteristics were compared with each other: sum of spores recorded during the season, start and end of the season and peak day. The earliest onset of the season was observed in 2011 and it was also the longest season. The highest level of Alternaria spores was usually noted in a first decade of August. The maximum average daily spore concentration (2295 spores/m3) was recorded on the 2nd August 2010. During studied period the number of days with spore concentration necessary to evoke first allergic symptoms (> 80 spores/m3) varied from 56 to 81, depending on the season.
