Abstract

Sneezing, tearing from the eyes, nasal obstruction, watery discharge from the nose are the symptoms that are most often recognized as allergic rhinitis. A change in the nature of the symptoms or the appearance of new alarms and the lack of improvement after conservative treatment suggests that doctors should refer to deepen the diagnosis. The nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses can be the location of a variety of cancers, unfortunately often clinically silent for years or giving nonspecific symptoms. As a consequence, the patient has a final diagnosis at a time when the cancer is in a high stage and with a worse prognosis. In this scientific work, we will analyze the literature on alarm symptoms in patients with allergic past history and present a patient with allergic rhinitis and chronic sinusitis treated for 10 years, who due to the exacerbation of chronic symptoms, had implemented extended diagnostics and finally had a diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the maxillary sinus of the right with metastases to the lymph nodes of the neck on the right.
