Abstract

Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are chronic diseases in which the effectiveness of therapy depends not only on the choice of the appropriate method of treatment, but also on the patient’s awareness. For this reason, doctors should place great emphasis on educating the patient. This ensures a higher degree of adherence to medical recommendations and compliance, which significantly affects the chances of successful therapy. Education in the field of the disease itself and its treatment should be present during the diagnosis of the disease, during the follow-up visit(s), and in the event of lack of control of disease symptoms – before treatment escalation. An important element of patient education is also learning the correct technique of drug administration in properly selected dispensers or inhalation systems.
