Cenesthopathic schizophrenia – a case study of the treatment with risperidone long-acting iniection Case report
Main Article Content
Abstract
The diagnosis of schizophrenia in contemporary psychiatry is based in most cases on confirmation of psychotic episode as paranoid with characteristic features as persecutory delusions as well as delusions of reference. Some authors described other types of schizophrenia which are important in the context of this paper as somatosensoric schizophrenia (M. Bornsztajn) or cenesthetic schizophrenia (G. Huber). According to Huber in this form predominant symptoms are somatic complaints with disturbed mood. In those cases pain and medically unexplained somatic symptoms are present in nearly all cases and that can sometimes cause diagnostic problems for physicians. More obvious psychotic symptoms as thermic or electric sensations are easier diagnosed as psychotic experiences. The paper presents the case of 35-year-old man of Russian origin with cenesthetic schizophrenia successfully treated with risperidone long-acting injections. In this case all his sensations as pain and unexplained somatic symptoms were resolved with this medication.
