Abstract

The Suicidal Acute Risk Scale (SARS) was established to support psychiatrists making medical and legal decisions during psychiatric hospitalization. There are two ways to assess the risk of suicidal behavior with SARS: quantitative (total points) and qualitative (when mandatory treatment is recommended). The high risk criteria can be diagnosed, when the A criterion is met, regardless of B, C and D, or there is a triad of all three criteria B, C and D. The inter-rater reliability (kappa 0.78) and internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha 0.82) are both adequately high to administer the scale in clinical practice.
