Abstract
Dry eye disease – basic disorder of ocular surface (ocular surface disease) – is one of the most common diseases in ophthalmological daily practice. Diagnosis of ocular surface diseases relies on analysis of risk factors and DEWS II diagnostic algorithms. Symptomatic treatment, like usage of artificial tears, is the basic treatment of dry eye disease. To assure the highest efficiency and safety drugs should not contain any conservatives. The therapeutic algorithms cannot exclude thermotherapy and eyelids hygiene. Conservative treatment, in certain cases, should be extended by anti-inflammatory and/or immunomodulatory treatment. The critical point, ensuring the future therapies and reinstating ocular surface wellness, lies in performance of procedures of biological rejuvenation of ocular surface, especially valuable procedures of revitalising meibomian glands.
