Contemporary methods of surgical treatment of nasolacrimal duct obstruction in adults

Abstract
External or endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy is the standard therapy for nasolacrimal duct obstruction in managing epiphora. New innovative surgical techniques and adjunctive methods, such as insertion of silicone tubes and the use of laser energy, for the treatment of nasolacrimal obstruction are being introduced continually. Nowadays, it is almost impossible to unequivocally decide which of these methods offers the best results. The aim of this study is to review the surgical methods of nasolacrimal duct obstruction treatment, based on the current literature.
