Abstrakt

Polidypsja pierwotna – przyjmowanie ponad 3 l płynu dziennie z powodu wzmożonego pragnienia niespowodowanego chorobami somatycznymi – występuje u ok. 10% pacjentów z przewlekłą chorobą psychiczną. U chorych ze schizofrenią pojawienie się polidypsji zwiększa śmiertelność, konieczne jest zatem stosowanie odpowiednio czułych metod przesiewowych, identyfikujących nadmierne, niekiedy okresowe przyjmowanie płynów.
W niniejszej pracy poglądowej omówiono kryteria diagnostyczne oraz metody badań przesiewowych w kierunku polidypsji ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem pomiarów ciężaru właściwego moczu oraz pomiarów wagi ciała. Dokonano przeglądu problemów związanych z monitorowaniem objawów polidypsji przez personel oddziałów psychiatrycznych. Porównano także metody zastosowane w wybranych badaniach epidemiologicznych.
