Optical aids for visually impaired patients
Main Article Content
Abstract
Increasing number of visually impaired patients in aging societies generates the need for using specific equipment for these people, who are often leading a lonely and self-reliant existence. Thanks to medical progress, even very low vision may be rehabilitated to enable patients to use low vision equipment on their own. Thanks to these aids, vision can remain the main tool for cognition of reality and allow patients to continue studies as well as professional activity. In order to reach a complete optic rehabilitation, it is necessary to work with a team of specialists who establish diagnosis, assess the degree of visual deterioration and indicate the need for specific optical equipment and rehabilitation therapy. This process takes time and requires a close cooperation with patients as well as successive follow-ups.
