Abstract

Glucocorticosteroids are a product of the adrenal cortex and exert a huge number of physiological effects necessary for life. Their clinical application is largely based on their anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, but they have other uses as well. The article discusses the basic physiological functions of glucocorticosteroids and their clinical applications as well as side effects that can be encountered during glucocorticosteroids therapy. Diseases where the use of oral glucocorticoids in the daily practice of a primary care physician is justified were decribed in a special way.
