Evaluation of the effectiveness and safety of the Pelargonium sidoides extract in children with respiratory infections Review article
Main Article Content
Abstract
Acute respiratory infections are very common in children, and the Pelargonium sidoides extract is an effective and safe remedy for them, which to date has been demonstrated in a number of both placebo-controlled and open-label clinical trials. Documented pharmacological activities include antiviral, antibacterial, as well as immunomodulatory abilities. Our observations confirmed what had been previously reported in other studies. The extract from P. sidoides is well tolerated and can be used in children from 6 years of age to prevent deterioration of clinical condition or complications from infection while reducing the need for painkillers and antibiotics.
