Abstract

The autumn–winter season is characterized by an increase in the incidence of acute respiratory infections, whose etiology may be viral or bacterial. These infections are one of the most frequent reasons for the absence of children and adolescents at schools and adults at work. Prevention of upper respiratory tract infections involves a hygienic lifestyle, no smoking, and regular physical activity. In a diet, we should pay attention to the correct number of calories and the content of minerals and vitamins. In the prevention of infections, is important to use vitamin C – both from natural sources and in the form of dietary supplements. Vitamin C administered during an infection soothes its course and shortens its duration both in children and adults.
