Abstrakt
Pomimo postępu w leczeniu kardiochirurgicznym i dostępu do nowych, coraz bardziej skutecznych antybiotyków infekcyjne zapalenie wsierdzia jest chorobą o poważnym rokowaniu, kończącą się nierzadko śmiercią chorego. Profilaktyka zapalenia wsierdzia powinna zmniejszyć ryzyko zachorowania w grupie chorych narażonych na proces zapalny wsierdzia. Prezentowany w obecnym numerze KwP artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie aktualnych, opublikowanych w 2007 r. (aktualizacja 2008 r.) zaleceń amerykańskich towarzystw kardiologicznych dotyczących profilaktyki infekcyjnego zapalenia wsierdzia oraz wskazanie różnic w stosunku do rekomendacji Europejskiego Towarzystwa Kardiologicznego z 2004 r.
