How should we manage lesions located in coronary bifurcations in 2017? Review article
Main Article Content
Abstract
Procedures within coronary bifurcations stand for approximately 15–20% of all percutaneous coronary interventions. Unfortunately, although there are many literature data the choice of the best approach is still very controversial. The European Bifurcation Club prepared 11th Consensus summarizing the current recommendations on the treatment of lesions located in coronary bifurcations. In this document the lesion classification (Medina classification) as well as the treatment strategies classification (MADS classification) were reminded one more time. Also, the principles of choosing 1- vs 2-stent strategy, the role of kissing balloons technique as well as the proximal optimization technique were discussed. Additionally, the current views on the use of dedicated bifurcation stents and intracoronary imaging during PCI were presented.
