Abstract

European Society of Cardiology in 2018 proposed new guidelines on hypertension management and treatment. Key changes apply to the hypertension diagnosis, preferable choice of single pill combination of drugs and treatment algorithm. Target blood pressures were lowered and lower safe thresholds of blood pressure during treatment were proposed. The role of spironolactone in resistant hypertension and non-compliance as a potential reason of failure to reach target blood pressure goals were highlighted.
