Transient Left Ventricular Dysfunction Mimicking Acute Myocardial Infarction with ST-segment elevation – Takotsubo cardiomyopathy Review article
Main Article Content
Abstract
Apical Ballooning Syndrome also known as Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy is recently more frequently diagnosed. This acute myocardial infarction mimicking syndrome is characterized by transient left ventricular dysfunction with clinical symptoms of chest pain, electrocardiographic changes of ST-segment elevation or T wave inversion. Despite elevation of cardiac enzymes, coronary angiography reveales absence of coronary artery disease. The syndrome more often affects postmenopausal women. An episode of emotional or physiologic stress frequently precedes presentation with the syndrome, but precise mechanism of Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy still remains unclear.
