Abstract

Miocarditis and its complications (eg. cardiomyopathy, heart failure) currently account for significant percentage of causes for hospitalizations on cardiology wards. Article reviews actual knowledge on diagnosing miocarditis, clinical and pathologic classification of the disease, laboratory findings, imaging techniques and invasive diagnostic options (incl. endomiocardial biopsy). Furthermore, treatment options are reviewed, especially innovative treatment options using etiology-based approach.
